Garen Gregory King

Garen Gregory King, age 54, of “Zhaangweshii Dooden” “Mink Clan” and Redby, MN, lost his courageous and brave battle on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, from The Villas at the Cedars in St. Louis Park, MN. He was born on August 15, 1969, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Sandra (Parkhurst) and Archie King.

Garen graduated from The Red School House in 1987, in St. Paul. He loved family get togethers, frog hunting with his nieces and nephews, the Beatles, and listening to happy music. He enjoyed going for “windy walks” on the beach, playing cards, playing guitar, visiting, and reading the Bible. Garen was an excellent lyric writer, he referred to them as his, “numero unos.” Garen’s “true profession” was being an uncle. He was always telling and re-telling stories of his nieces and nephews and how he was a proud uncle. He never missed his Saturday “Svengoolie” on television, Bruce Lee shows and “The Warriors” were amongst his favorite movies. Garen had a big heart, he would call and check in on his family. Garen was active, practicing Tai Chi, and working out. Garen and his wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Garen is preceded in death by his father, Archie King; grandparents, August and Beatrice King, Earl and Rose Parkhurst; and sister-in-law, Leader Woman Stately.

Garen is survived by his mother, Sandra King; brothers, Carter (Stacy) and Guy King; sister, Cheyenne (Jason) King; uncle, Greg Parkhurst; aunties, Mary (Dave) Quincy, Judy (Victor) Roy, Shelly (Knotty) King; nieces and nephews, Kelsey, Shayla, Archelle, Michelle, Blackbear, Denise, JaDe, and Sophia; 10 great-nephews and nieces; numerous other family members and friends.

A two-night wake for Garen will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21st, 2024, and continue until his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, all to be held at the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN. Pastor Joanie LaValle will officiate. Those helping to lay Garen to rest are Carter King, Guy King, Kelsey King, Blackbear King, JaDe King, Jason Wilson, and Joey Wickham, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Parkhurst, Ringo Smith, Corey King, Shelly Little, Dave Quincy, and Raymond Cloud. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN.
